Basic information (also see video below)
Foot orthotics are an important part of our practice. It is often the most effective, practical, time and cost efficient method of treatment. They can often help prevent the need for foot surgery and its associated recovery period. If surgery is needed they can help support the foot and speed the recovery process, and help to prevent other problems from developing. Finally, they can also reduce the need for systemic medications such as NSAIDS and muscle relaxants and there possible associated long term side effects.
Types of orthotics
Dr. Greenberg uses what are termed “biomechanical orthotics”. These are devices used to control the abnormal motions of the feet that lead to pain and various problems which are often progressive. These orthotics may be either “pre-formed” or “custom”. Custom foot orthotics are made from a cast impression of your foot, while pre-formed are made by the same laboratory and are devices for “the average” person. The custom made orthotics, which we have made by what is considered to be the best laboratory in the country, give us a greater ability to achieve the desired result.
To give you an idea of what the process involves, what follows is a short video produced by the laboratory we have been using for many years.
